“Some say that as we grow up, we become different people, at different ages…but I don’t believe this. I think we remain the same throughout, merely passing in these years from one room to another…but always in the same house. If we unlock the rooms of the past, we can look inside and see ourselves becoming who we are…”
-M. Barrie, Author of “Peter Pan” / 1906
This profound introduction was written over 115 years ago and truly exemplifies all that I believe theatre has to offer to so many – of all ages…the ability to act, play, laugh, dance and sing while telling a story about our past, present and future.
I was fortunate to grow up in the heart of Chicago in a time that encouraged all things “cultural”- through the Chicago Park District’s “Chase Park” – a red brick fieldhouse that stood proud across the street from our parish/grammar school “Our Lady of Lourdes”. Influenced by an amazing theatre director, my classmates and I were taught how to value one another as “castmates” – while developing a true sense of self confidence that I have strived to pass on, with the knowledge of how great it’s impact can be.
I am proud to say that I have dedicated the past 15 years to my passion, teaching theatre in Glenview to over 3000 children. And as wonderful as this journey has been, the truth is…“City Kid Theatre Company” is my Emerald City and there’s no place like home!
